Jamie Baker - Marketing Lead

What attracted you to working for RLWC2021?

I played rugby league growing up and always had the dream of playing in a World Cup, so it was definitely a pinch me moment when I was selected to join the team at RLWC2021! As a doting fan of the sport, I know this role will give me a huge opportunity to make a difference within rugby league. The challenge of delivering the best ever Rugby League World Cup is one I am thrilled to embrace.

Last year, I was lucky enough to work towards the Aintree Grand National Festival. It was incredibly exciting to see how anticipation grows around the world as the event edges closer. Spotting billboards displaying the event artwork, seeing the adverts appear on TV and witnessing the social media activity building around the occasion, is something that I can’t wait to experience again with the Rugby League World Cup team.

What is your favourite sporting memory?

In terms of sporting memories that I’ve experienced in person, two stick out for me.

Although I was only young lad in 2001, St Helens playing Brisbane Broncos in the World Club Challenge is definitely up there in my top sporting memories. After trailing at half-time, the English side were assisted by their experience of playing in wintery conditions, which resulted in 'Saints' overturning the deficit and becoming World Club Champions at the University of Bolton Stadium.

More recently, I was also at Wembley Stadium when Anthony Joshua knocked out Wladimir Klitschko in front of a crowd of 90,000 fans - that was an experience I’ll never forget!
